Supporting a cause is a reflection of one’s values. It provides an indication of an individual’s character and an insight into what drives that person. Getting behind a cause means making a calculated decision in which a person needs to reflect and choose the cause that offers the greatest opportunity for impact.
Sam Hull is taking the phrase “fighting for a cause” quite literally as he gears up to compete in his debut boxing bout this June. Born and raised in Detroit, MI, and residing in Golden, CO, Sam will be competing in the annual UNITE to FIGHT charity boxing event in Boulder, CO where entrepreneurs and community members train together as they prepare to step into the boxing ring to raise awareness and donations for a nonprofit close to their hearts.
“As a boxing official, I first heard about Every Kid Sports through USA Boxings Colorado Local Boxing Committee,” Sam explained. “I dove into research and quickly connected to their mission. I really liked that the program works on an individual level providing access to all and removing discrimination.”
Sam, along with his teammates, has taken on more responsibility at their local boxing club after the passing of his friend and mentor, Joaquin Romero. He’s currently coaching, competing, and officiating all while working full-time as a production manager. “Topeira Boxing Club is more than just a gym it’s a family. We have a wide variety of people who call the club their home and I’m committed to helping this place thrive” shared, Sam.
Growing up as a multi-sport athlete, Sam appreciates the benefits of having access to youth sports. “Sports translate into everyday life. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them and the lessons I learned along the way. I want every kid to have the opportunity to experience that.” When he heard about the UNITE to FIGHT charity boxing event Sam decided to throw his hat into the ring and knew he wanted to fundraise for Every Kid Sports. Sam has been training hard every day, encouraging his community to support him by raising funds in person and on social media! Sam has almost reached the goal that he originally set but has no plans of stopping there.
